The first joint project of the Lithuanian Librarians' Association and the British Library Association (LA) (the Agreement of co-operation was signed in December 1996) was a seminar for public librarians of Lithuania. Thirty librarians and specialists of librarianship attended in three days seminar, which was conducted by the lecturers from the BLA Grace Kempster and Philip Gill. Grace Kempster was a Leeds county librarian, Philip Gill - a former Worchester county librarian, a head of IFLA Public Library Group.

The seminar was organised by the Groups of International Relations and Professional Development of the LLA. The event was possible only thanks to the financial support of the Open Society Fund-Lithuania, also the British Council.

Though the interpretation was organised, participants enjoyed and greeted the complete material of the seminar, translated into Lithuanian language.

Main topic of a seminar - management of the staff and changes in a library. Participants had not only the exceptional opportunity to speak to outstanding professional from the BLA, but also to discuss problems among themselves. The role playing exercise was very well accepted, it raised many ideas and comments from participants.

At the end of a seminar participants were invited to fill the evaluation forms, which will be used to tailor further events of similar kind.
