Cooperation between Lithuanian and Russian Librarians Project

In 1999 Lithuanian and Russian librarians exchanged delegations of profesionals: 15 Lithuanian librarians visited St. Petersburg and Moscow libraries in May, while 15 Russian librarians visited Lithuanian libraries in September-October. Goals for future cooperation were foreseen during these visits. The project was prepared by the Lithuanian Librarians Association and Rudomino School of the Whole Russia Library for Foreign Literature, and financed by the programme East-East of the Open Society Institute (more).

IREX Project

In 1997 the project of the Lithuanian Librarians’ Association (LLA) was accepted by IREX (International Research and Exchanges Board). The project was aimed to compile and publish the directory of Lithuanian publishers. The directory will be published in 1999. The aim of it is to serve foreign readers and publishers. The project is headed by Dale Lukas (Assist International Inc., USA). Participants of the project - Vilnius University Library and Faculty of Communication of Vilnius University.

Martynas Mazvydas Library of the Lithuanian Community of Sovetsk

On the year of 450 anniversary of the First Lithuanian book (1997) the project to establish a Martynas Mazvydas library of the Lithuanian community of Sovetsk (Kaliningrad, Russia) was started. It was funded by the Jubilee Program of the 450th Anniversary of the First Lithuanian Book by Martymas Mazvydas. The LLA is executing the project with the participation of the Vilnius A.Mickevicius County Public Library (more).

The Homepage of the LLA

The idea to create the homepage of the LLA coincided wih the call of proposals of the Open Society Fund-Lithuania (OSF) for the Internet projects.

The project of the LLA was accepted. We were looking forwad to make an interesting and important work: to collect the material, to decide on the structure, etc.

The page is maintained by  Emilija Banionytė and Rima Klusovskienė. Your suggestions are welcome.
